Erin Raftery is a 3rd year PhD student and predoctoral fellow at the Photonic Device Research Group in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at UIUC. She received her bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University (Boston) in 2021.

As an undergraduate she had the opportunity to co-op at Suono Bio, Inc. (handheld ultrasonic device for drug delivery), Brigham and Women’s Hospital (all-in-one insulin pen), and MIT Lincoln Laboratory (NASA Europa Lander).

Her research focuses on the design, fabrication, and characterization of surface-emitting semiconductor lasers (VCSELs, PCSELs, TCSELs).

Besides research, Erin loves reptiles, pixel horror games, and magical realism in contemporary literature.
