Coherently-Coupled Photonic Crystal VCSEL Arrays (2020-2023)

For mode engineering, electronic beam steering, and enhanced modulation, the coherently coupled photonic crystal VCSEL arrays have been analyzed.

Complex Coupling Coefficient:

Using coupled rate equation and coupled mode equation, the complex coupling coefficient of a 2x1 photonic crystal VCSEL array has been analyzed by PDRG group members. The imaginary coupling coefficient can be extracted from the output optical power and the excess power due to coherent coupling. Nusrat works on analyzing this extracted coupling coefficient and the coupling induced excess power.

Antiguided Array Modeling:

Based on the one-dimensional refractive index model developed by PDRG group members, Nusrat performs analysis on the coupled supermode and its confinement factor. The photonic crystal parameter: hole diameter, pitch etc can be tuned to engineer different threshold supermode of the coupled VCSEL arrays.
